On the heels of her Academy Award-winning, breakout performance in 12 Years a Slave, Lupita Nyong’o stunned critics and audiences in the Public Theater’s sold-out production of stage play “Eclipsed” by Zimbabwean-American playwright and actress Danai Gurira (of AMC’s The Walking Dead fame). The Oscar winner will make her Broadway debut beginning next early year with shows running from February 21-March 5, 2016. South African-born Liesl Tommy (The Good Negro, Appropriate) directs. The descriptive given for the play is as follows: “Amid the chaos of the Liberian Civil War, the captive wives of a rebel officer band together to form a fragile community – until the balance of their lives is upset by the arrival of a new girl. Drawing on reserves of wit and compassion, “Eclipsed” reveals distinct women who must discover their own means of survival in this deeply felt story about finding and testing your own strength.” Film and television star LaLa Anthony shared a photo after showing support, while visiting the Public Theater’s production of the play, during a first look preview prior to the stage production’s Broadway debut.
