HomeThe EnvyThe StyleDIYRemoving Salt Stains From Leather Boots TheNV April 11, 2015 DIY WHAT YOU’LL NEED: A Shoe Brush Body Wash/Soap A Spray Bottle Vinegar Hair Conditioner Towel Leather Boot Waterproofing Spray I’ve found that living in an area where I experience all four seasons of weather has its perks, as well as, having some negatives. Although I’m a sucker for the cold winter months due to holiday/family times such as Christmas and all the beautiful decor in Central Park in New York, or even with “The Mall” being tastefully decorated in Washington, DC, that the holidays bring…winter weather can leave our poor fragile leather attire to take a beating due to the snow and salt stains. Here is an easy at-home, do-it-yourself regimen that I’ve found to be helpful in restoring my favorite boots back to glory, appearing as if they were brand new. STEP 1: Brush off your boots. Do this to remove any big pieces of dirt and debris to make it easier to clean. STEP 2: Take some body wash liquid soap, mixed with water and gently clean off your leather boots with a towel. STEP 3: Prepare your water and vinegar solution: This will be the agent that really does the trick in removing salt stains. Take a spray bottle to mix and add half part water and half part vinegar into the bottle. Shake it up. STEP 4: Spray the mixture onto your boots particularly where the salt stains are visible. STEP 5: Rinse or wipe your boots with water to remove any excess vinegar. STEP 6: To replenish the moisture that can be lost from using vinegar, take hair conditioner and spread it liberally to your leather boots. Afterwards, wipe your boots clean. Repeat step if necessary to ensure that you have removed all traces of vinegar and conditioner. STEP 7: Spray a waterproof spray onto your boots to protect them from new water stains or salt stains. I refer Kiwi’s Protect-All for leather and fabrics which can be purchased at Target. Hope you’ve found this bid of information useful.
